The Spanish Ulcer - 1809
Tamames
October 18, 1809
Background
But as a part of the Spanish offensive to recapture Madrid, Parque's Army of the Left debouched from the Sierras northwest of Madrid deploying into Tamames and the nearby hills. Since Ney was on leave, senior divisional commander General Jean Gabriel Marchand commanded the VI Corps and moved to confront Parque. The French VI Corps was worn out and Marchand was no Ney. Nevertheless, the French moved to the attack.
