Scenario Rules

  • Game Length
0830 - 1600 hours (16 turns). The Prussians are the First Side.
  • Arrival Times
    ###### French: * 2, C, 12#, & Marshal Davout: 0830 hours. In march column at the E9 road end. * 1 & 4#: 1000 hours. In march column at the E9 road end. ###### Prussian:
  • Brunswick
If Marshal Brunswick is eliminated, he _is not_ replaced. (Optional) Since he was aged and not too mobile, Brunswick can be eliminated on a "1-5", instead of the normal "1-3".
  • Army Morale Fluctuations
During Turns 0830-1200 hours, each building in Hassenhausen controlled by the Prussians lowers French army morale "-1". During Turns 1400-1600, Prussian army morale drops by "-2" per Turn (bad news arriving from Jena).
  • Options
The French start with initiative. The French get 6 free rolls and the Prussians get 4.

Historic Results

Fierce fighting developed around Hassenhausen, with the French hanging on by their fingernails. The aged Prussian commander, Marshal Brunswick was killed in this fighting, which proved to be possibly the single most important event in the battle. The King of Prussia, the unmilitary Frederick William III, was present on the field, but had the additional misfortune to also lose his military advisor, Marshal Mollendorf (who was captured). Refusing to appoint a successor to Brunswick, but not really seizing control him-self, Kaiser Frederick left the Prussian army essentially leaderless. Seizing the moment, Marshal Davout counterattacked with vigor, finally driving the confused, poorly led, and demoralized Prussians from the field. French losses came to almost 8,000, while Prussian losses totaled about 15,000.
