Saxony was initially allied with Prussia during the 1806 campaign, but joined the Confederation of the Rhine in December 1806. Saxony had some of the finest cavalry in Europe, but their infantry was indifferent and their artillery even worse. Saxons fought for the French through 1813 but abandoned Napoleon on the field of Leipzig.
