Sir John Abercromby (1772–1817), Ralph’s son, carried forward the family’s military tradition during the Napoleonic Wars. He served in the Mediterranean and later in the Peninsular campaigns, rising to the rank of lieutenant-general. Though less renowned than his father, he distinguished himself in service and eventually held command in India before his death in 1817. His career exemplified the continuity of British military service across generations, linking the Revolutionary and Napoleonic conflicts with Britain’s expanding imperial commitments.
