Born in Mobile, Louisiana Territory, he entered the French army in 1775 and served in the American Revolution, transferred to France when that concluded. An early supporter of the French Revolution, he was elected Assembly President in July 1792 but also remained in the army, becoming a general de brigade in the Army of the Rhine 1n 1793. X 93 commander Mainz fortress (surrendered 7/21/93 - L) - somehow avoided punishment - X 93 Vendee - defeated at Clisson (L) and recalled - saved by the fall of Robespierre and temporarily retired - XX rank 1/95 - XXXX replaced Hoche in command of the Army of the Coasts 4/95 - Minister of War 11/95 - Ambassador to the Ottoman Turks 2/96 and died of natural causes in Constantinople 12/17/97. (1757 - 1797).
