Born in France, he joined the Spanish army in 1792. He earned a decent record during the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars. XX 11-12 Rio Gebora, Albuera, Salamanca. Criticized by Wellington for abandoning his brigade @ Albaole Tormes (7/12) & for letting the French escape after Salamanca. He joined the 1820 French invasion to restore the Spanish king and ordered mass murders in Catalonia. In 1839, mutinous Spanish soldiers tied him to a millstone and threw him in a river (1775-1839)
