Enlisted in 1793 and served under Lasalle; wounded @ Wagram; served in Russia; colonel of the 10th Hussars in 1813-1814; X rank in 1814 (after a great charge at Montmirail); X 15 saw no action. A master cavalryman, he was in 20 campaigns, 38 battles and 50 skirmishes, taking 6 wounds. "àgiven the opportunity, he might have become the most famous cavalry general of all." (1774-1827)
