Suspected of cowardice at Marengo, his otherwise sterling record kept him in Napoleon's good graces. Served mainly in garrison and staff duties between 1800 and 1814. A royal army private (69-76), he was a lt. col. in 1792; promoted to X rank on the Arcola battlefield (official 12/96), where wounded; X 99 Italy – Magnano, Vapiro & Cassano, Verona (wounded); XX 00 Marengo campaign; XX rank 7/03; XX 08-09 Spain; baron in 1811.
