Commissioned in 1789. A royalist supporter and Vendee rebel until 1800, he was later imprisoned after a plot to kill Napoleon and then fled to Spain. He was allowed to return home and rejoined the French army in 1808. Usually assigned staff and administrative duties, he was commanding a division when he famously deserted to the allies during the Waterloo campaign in 1815. He provided key testimony against Marshal Ney in 1815. Never happy, this cranky arch plotter tried a coup against the Bourbons in later years. Usually assigned to staff duties, he was C of S to Loison (wounded @ Lutzen); X 14; XX rank in 1814; XX 15 (deserted!). (1773-1846)
